GOMADIC LAUNCHES LINE OF UPGRADEABLE MOBILE ACCESSORIES Tip Exchange Technology Redefines Disposable Technology Culture

Herndon, VA October 4, 2005

Gomadic Corporation is pleased to announce the product launch of it’s new Tip Exchange Technology, designed to change the tide of disposable accessories for over 500 mobile devices. TipExchange, in the form of removable cable connectors that easily lock into place, allows users to simply replace the inexpensive cable tip on a variety of mobile device accessories rather than replacing the entire unit for the high retail price.  With products applicable to portable devices ranging from mobile phones to PDAs and mp3 players, Gomadic is redefining how we buy and recycle products in our disposable technology culture.

“This is what we’ve all been looking for,” says IBM Executive, Jim Stroud.  “The recent trend in mobile device technology is to leave the consumer with unusable parts when a newer device becomes available, also leaving them to foot the bill to replace them. I just got so tired of spending $30 for a car charger, another $30 for a wall charger and another $30 for a data cable EVERY time I upgraded my cell phone. Gomadic products are great because they’re recyclable. You can use this technology over and over without throwing anything away.”

“We want to create cost-effective products that appeal to the mobile workforce’s need for flexibility,” says Gomadic President Don Cayelli.  “Our TipExchange products allow customers to re-use the accessories purchased for their portable electronics when they upgrade to newer models, and will work with almost any name brand -- from HP to Apple to Dell.”

TipExchange also enables users to double up existing accessories for multiple devices.  For example, the same car charger can be used with tips for a Palm Tungsten handheld computer, as well as Samsung mobile phones and Create Labs mp3 players, saving both space and money.

“For me, it’s all about speed and mobility,” says Unisys Executive, Ed Bielecki “and Gomadic keeps that in mind when designing their products. Whether you’re connecting to the Internet from your cell phone, charging your iPod and PDA on the way to work, or simply trying to untangle the mess of wires next to your PC, Gomadic’s products make life easier.”
